ASSOCIATE PASTOR, David Seyller
(Interim)

Dear Friends in Christ:

There is an old saying, "If you want to give God a good laugh, just tell him your plans." God has certainly been laughing with regards to my retirement plans. First, when I retired, my wife Bonnie and I planned to sell our home in Crystal Lake and buy a house in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to live closer to our daughter Amy-Louise. Well, you know what happened to the housing market. We tried to sell for two years and then took it off the market thinking perhaps God had other plans for us. Second, for two and one-half years I have been enjoying my retirement with no intention of getting "back in harness" to serve in the local church. Well, here I am and I'm enjoying for the first time in my thirty years of ministry being an interim associate pastor.

I am grateful to Pastor Jamie Geiger for inviting me to serve on staff and equally appreciative of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee's affirmation. I have already experienced a warm and gracious welcome from the staff and congregation.

Please know that with Pastor Jamie's guidance and wisdom, I intend to serve in whatever manner is most helpful to the members and ministries of the church, pastor and staff, and the community.

In the Book of Revelation, the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new" (Rev. 21:5a). The church and all who claim to be a part of the body of Christ are constantly being made new by our Creator — even retired pastors.

I am humbled and invigorated by this oppoprtunity to serve at the United Methodist Church of Libertyville.

Blessings,

Pastor David Seyller
